DIABETIC ULCERS
People suffering from diabetic ulcers need to be extra careful, not to be injure themselves as their wounds tend to take longer to heal and often result in complicated or non- healing wounds. Some cases may be lead to amputation.

Collodermis has proved to be very useful for diabetic ulcers.

  • Before apply collodermis wound should be cleaned with antiseptic solutions and if necessary, debrided .
  • Blood suger level must be tested regularly and kept within acceptable limits.
  • Every alternative days the wound should be inspected by doctor to determine whether an infection is present, if there is an infection, take the membrane (collodermis) and debride the wound area apply new collodermis.

CASE STUDY : Patient is a 56 year old male with non-insulin dependent diabetes who presented with infected ulcer. Collodermis was applied on the wound with following standard protocol. He was treated 3 dressings and ulcer was completely healed.

BURN WOUNDS
Collodermis was found to stick to the wound immediately after applications and the patients were relieved from the pain to great extent. It tooks 7-10 days for complete healing of wound under collodermis. Everyday the wound was observed and no repeat dressing was done. The membrane (collodermis) remind intact providing a favourable atmosphere for epithilialization for these days. No infection was noticed on the wound during the wound healing.

Hemorrhage was considerably reduced immediately after application of the collodermis, showing the well- documented homeostatic property of collagen. Collodermis was found to partially peal-off from the wound after epithilialazation, but it was removed easily from the wound sprinkling saline.

CASE STUDY : The clinical effectiveness of collodermis was tested by applying in 50 patients with 10-30% burns ( first or second degree burns). All these cases taken for the study were fresh and reached the hospitals within few hours after the incident. All the charred tissues debris was removed and the wound was thoroughly cleaned with sterile saline. Collodermis was directly applied on to the reddish denuded skin completely covering the wound no secondary dressing over collodermis was done.

DONOR SITES
After application of collodermis further hemorrhage was completed stopped. The wound healing process was completed within 7-10days. A single application of colodermis was enough through out the period. No infection was reported in any cases.

CLINICAL EFFECTIVENESS OF COLLODERMIS ON DONOR SITES
The effectiveness of Collodermis on Donor Sites was studied in 50 patients who underwent plastic surgery through an autograft for various reasons. After harvesting the skin, excess bleeding at the donor site was arrested by conventional methods. Collodermis was applied directly on the wound covering the entire site. The wound was left as it was without any secondary dressing over the collodermis.

LEPROSY WOUNDS
The wounds were observed, after the application of collodermis every alternative day. It was found that repeat dressing is compulsory in these wounds, since fluid accumulation was noticed under the dressing. Hence every alternative day collodermis was removed and a fresh sheet was applied. After 5 such dressings the wound was found to dry with good granulation underneath. Repeat dressing was not necessary afterwards, and within the next 13-15 days the wounds were completely granulated. Routine systematic antibiotic treatment was given to all these patients during the experiment.

CLINICAL EFFECTIVENESS OF COLLODERMIS ON LEPROSY WOUNDS
The effectiveness of collodermis was studied in 13 leprosy patients. All the necrotic tissues were removed from the leprosy wound surgically and the wound was thoroughly cleaned with sterile saline. Collodermis was applied on the wound followed by usual secondary dressing over it.

VENOUS STASIS ULCERS
The wounds were observed after the application of collodermis every alternative days. Just 3 or 4 repeated dressing may be necessary in these wounds. After application collodermis the patient was comfortable and reduce the pain immediately. After that the wound was completely cured.

CLINICAL EFFECTIVENESS OF COLLODERMIS ON VENOUS STASIS ULCERS
The effectiveness of collodermis was done morethan 100 patients. All patients were completely satisfied using the collodermis. Because, the product was highly comfortable and reducing the pain.
